Companies stand up for EU’s 2035 zero-emission target

September 8, 2025 2 min read

Will Europe lead the shift into clean, smart transport – or watch others speed ahead? Today, more than 150 European companies, including many EV100 members, are urging the European Commission to stand firm on the 2035 zero-emission target for cars and vans, and back it with bold industrial action.

The open letter follows increasingly vocal calls from parts of the European car industry to water down the legislation that’s keeping Europe’s EV transition on track.

Dominic Phinn, our Head of Transport, comments: “It’s hard not to notice how the carmakers that are most vocal about watering down agreed legislation are those that are slowest to embrace the EV transition.

It goes against the overwhelming demand for EVs from the many businesses – including members of our EV100 network – who are fully committed to smarter, cleaner road transport and want to see a competitive EU that leads the global shift.

Sales are surging, models are diversifying, charging infrastructure is rapidly expanding – and forward-thinking carmakers are doing the right thing because they know their choice is simple. Either raise your EV game today, or be irrelevant tomorrow.”

EV100 members that signed the letter include AstraZeneca, EDP, ABB, EDF, Ikea/Ingka, Vattenfall, and Iberdrola

Our members are on a journey to fully electrify their corporate fleets – to ambitious deadlines, across vehicle segments, and in markets around the world. By speeding up the shift to electric vehicles (EVs),they drive up sales, and bring down prices – making EVs rapidly more affordable and accessible for all.

To keep EV transitions advancing, Europe’s leading companies need a regulatory framework they can trust. “Tinkering with this foundation will send shockwaves through the entire system,” says Dominic Phinn.
