The World Meteorological Organization's State of Climate Report found that the Earth's climate is more out of balance than at any time in observed history.

The ocean has been absorbing about eighteen times the annual human energy use each year for the past two decades - with rising extreme weather impacting millions of people and costing billions to the global economy.

In response to the report, Helen Clarkson, CEO of Climate Group, said:

"Yet more clear evidence that we are pushing our planet to the brink.

Economic collapse, food system failure, and wars over water do not have to be our future. We can shift this trajectory by getting off fossil fuels.

We know what it takes to do this. Governments have the tools and technology. Now we need to change laws and regulations to really speed things up.

Governments' duty should be to protect the lives of the people they serve, not the vested interests of the fossil fuel industry."
