Sam Kimmins, Director of Energy at Climate Group, comments on the UK Government's record auction to secure 8.4 gigawatts of offshore windfarm capacity.

“This auction delivers twelve million homes worth of offshore wind capacity – at prices that are around 40% lower than the cost of building a new gas plant. That’s a huge win for consumers, businesses, government, and the environment. 

There is no ‘do nothing’ option: the choice is between affordable, home-grown renewables or expensive fossil fuel plants that lock in long-term dependence on unreliable global suppliers.”
