Ember’s latest global electricity report shows that for the first time ever on record, renewables generated more power than coal. China and India both saw fossil generation fall in the first half of 2025 as clean power growth outpaced demand.
Sam Kimmins, Director of Energy at Climate Group, said: “Companies worldwide are demanding cheaper, faster, easier access to renewables. Their purchasing power and influence is re-making the energy system, and Ember’s latest analysis highlights a new milestone in this global transformation.
Both China and India saw fossil fuel generation fall in the first half of 2025 – that’s two countries where corporate demand for renewables is booming right now.
Governments risk losing business to more competitive markets if they fail to act quickly to improve access to renewables.”
