State of New Jersey joins global coalition of states and regions committed to tackling climate change, ahead of COP29.
London, UK - New Jersey becomes the latest US state in the Under2 Coalition, joining the largest global network of states and regions as part of a global network committed to bold climate action and net zero by 2050.
Governor Murphy signs the Global Climate Leadership Memorandum of Understanding, making New Jersey the 17th US State to join the Under2 Coalition.
“We are not only committed to meeting our very ambitious goals, but we are also committed to creating a new generation of economic opportunities,” said Governor Murphy.
“We’ve got one of the largest nuclear plants still in operation and the energy demands are going up and not down particularly generative artificial intelligence. So, signing this MOU is so consistent with who we are and who we want to be.
Speaking on the vital role that the Under2 Coalition plays in the global climate space, he said, “You have got a network that is second to none in this space, and we (New Jersey) would love to be able to both contribute to that network and also feed of that network.”

Governor Murphy led a delegation of climate specialists from New Jersey including Wes Matthews, President and CEO, Choose New Jersey, Shaun Keegan, CEO of Solar Landscape and Paulina Banasiak O’Connor, Executive Director of the New Jersey Offshore Wind Alliance.
