Welcome to our employee interview series. Read on for a glimpse into what working at Climate Group looks like.

Why Climate Group?

I was immediately drawn to the benefits of working for a medium-sized NGO – a more collaborative non-hierarchical structure, creative agency and impact at the heart of decision-making. I was impressed with Climate Group’s unique position working with both corporates and policymakers, and its role as founder of Climate Week NYC! I wanted to balance corporate stakeholder engagement with real-world impact and saw opportunity to do so at Climate Group.

What does a regular day look like for you as a Senior Engagement Manager in the Energy team?

Each day in the role is incredibly varied – and can look quite different month to month. My focus is on attracting corporates to our energy initiative and engaging them in our programmatic work. In order to do so, I am often on calls with corporate stakeholders, or attending wider events & conferences in the ecosystem. Internally, I get the opportunity to input on strategic direction and support organisational decision-making, alongside day-to-day operational work. Being hybrid, I enjoy a balance of both online calls and in-person meetings at our lovely London Bridge office!

What do you enjoy most about working at Climate Group?

If I were to pick just two things, the first would be the people. An organisation with positive impact and strong work-life culture naturally attracts passionate and like-minded people. I have made life-long friends at Climate Group and regularly engage in the social opportunities made available to us at the company (monthly drinks, run club, impromptu pub). Secondly, I have enjoyed many opportunities for professional growth. Working at Climate Group often offers the chance to work closely with senior team members, to offer opinions, shape strategies and represent the organisation at events all over the world. This has enabled me to develop a whole host of experiences and learnings.

What have you learnt from your time here?

Working at Climate Group has hugely developed my technical knowledge base – particularly in corporate renewables purchasing & scope 2 carbon accounting. I’ve had the opportunity to learn on the job – both in terms of dedicated weekly learning time, but also through attending annual conferences with leading experts in the space!

Who or what inspires you in your work?

I am regularly inspired by colleagues who go above and beyond to achieve Climate Group’s ambitions – whether that be through dedicated work on-the-ground at COP, or policy advocacy work in challenging markets. Working in sustainability, I get to work with people from a wide variety of organisations who all share the same mission – and I find the sheer volume of people working towards a clean-energy future to be inspiring. Finally, at Climate Group you are often empowered to share your opinion and shape the direction of your work – which inspires a positive work ethic and creative thinking.

How do you stay motivated to keep driving climate action, fast?

I'm motivated by the positive examples coming both from Climate Group and the wider ecosystem. In my time at Climate Group I have seen greater emphasis on vocalising the amazing impact that the organisation is having – and this regularly reminds me that the work I’m doing is creating real-world change. At Climate Group there is also a strong culture of sharing positive news, books and podcasts with colleagues! This comes from all levels of the organisation (including a weekly email from senior leadership) and continues to remind us what we’re working towards, and that success is possible!
