This week, two significant reports have been published from the International Energy Agency and Ember, both showing that electricity demand growth in 2025 was met largely by renewable energy sources.
In response to this significant milestone in the clean energy transition, Climate Group's CEO Helen Clarkson says:
"Two significant reports this week show the same thing – that the growth in electricity demand is being met by clean, renewable energy, particularly through a global boom in solar.
At the same time, the current conflict has shown the world once again the vulnerability of being tied into global fossil fuel systems. Countries that are further ahead on their energy transition are showing much more resilience to geopolitical turmoil.
These reports show us the significant progress that has already been made, and reinforce that the way to a clean and safe future lies via electrification powered by the sun and wind."
