In response to Keir Starmer's speech at the International Investment Summit 2024 hosted in London today, Mike Peirce, Executive Director of Systems Change at Climate Group said:
''It's positive to see this government recognise one of the biggest barriers stopping the UK from becoming an energy superpower is outdated regulation. In a time when renewables are the cheapest source of electricity, waiting at least five years just to connect projects to the grid is absurd. Around the world, restrictive siting, permitting and connection policies are holding back renewables. Tackling these issues in the UK, as well as bringing greater certainty and transparency to the renewables market, is critical to help businesses play their part in unleashing renewables - and their role is critical to gain the speed and scale we need."
